George R. R. Martin has posted a blog entry titled An Ending. It's to cap off more than a decade of his involvement in HBO's Game of Thrones eight season series with show-runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Apparently, in his blog post, he mentioned that Benioff and Weiss already knew who Jon Snow's mother was when they sat down for lunch/dinner at the LA Palm. Confidential much? Hope the diners seated nearby weren't listening then.
Anyway, the post is mainly Martin congratulating the cast and crew and wishing all of them well as they move on to other projects, pursuits and predilections, including his own. In Martin's case, he listed some of the projects he's involved in - five non-Westerosi shows at HBO still in development, two at Hulu and one at the History Channel. He's also doing feature projects, some his own, others adaptations, and he plans to do short films and adaptations of classic stories. He's also involved as a consultant on a video game out of Japan.
As for The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, he says he's still working on them and struggles to give a definitive completion date (with the hope he doesn't jinx it). Will they be any different from the HBO series ending? His answers were yes and no (as expected). But what's certain is that he'll definitely be covering some of the characters dropped out of the TV series, such as Jeyne Poole, Lady Stoneheart, Penny and her pig, Skahaz Shavepate, Arianne Martell, Darkstar, Victarion Greyjoy, Ser Garlan the Gallant, Aegon VI and many other characters. He mentioned unicorns...so...at least we know there aren't going to be Cersei elephants...or will we?
If you have trouble accessing the blog (it is a little wonky), the post is replicated in its entirety below.
He ended his post with an image of HBO's Iron Throne.
