Netflix has announced the cast of "Shadow and Bone", an 8-episode TV series adapted from Leigh Bardugo's Grishaverse fantasy novels - "Shadow and Bone" and "Six of Crows". Cast includes Westworld's and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian's Ben Barnes (as General Kirigan), Pennyworth's Freddy Carter (as Kaz Brekker), Jessie Mei Li (as Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (as Malyen Oretsev), Amita Suman (as Inej) and Kit Young (as Jesper Fahey). The star of the show, Li, appeared on Ivo van Hove's stage adaptation of "All About Eve" and is set to appear in Edgar Wright's Last Night in SoHo film (2020). Anyway, the Netflix series is produced by Eric Heisserer (who wrote the screenplay adaptations for films like Bird Box and Arrival) and directed by Lee Toland Krieger.

Story goes that Alina (Li), an orphan-turned-recruit encounters a force (Grisha power) that could be used to unite her country while battling dangerous enemies from a dark realm called the Shadow Fold, as they plot against her.

Naturally, her power catches the attention of General "Darkling" Kirigan (Barnes), a military leader of the Grisha, with sinister ambitions of his own against the Shadow Fold. Malyen Oretsev (Renaux), Alina's childhood friend, will be travelling (and protecting?) her against well, malevolent creatures of the night.

Series is currently in production with no firm release date yet. Also, this is the first round of cast announcements, so expect more updates from Netflix very soon.

Leigh Bardugo (44), was born in Jerusalem, Israel and grew up in Los Angeles, USA. She is best known for the Six of Crows duology novel series, and the Shadow and Bone trilogy. Her debut novel, Shadow and Bone, was published in 2012. Apparently, she signed with her agent Joanne Volpe and inked a three-book deal with Henry Holt/Macmillan less than 30 days after sending out her first query.
